Women on Birth Control May Benefit from Nattokinase Supplementation
An article published in the Nutraceuticals World Magazine, described the substantial evidence regarding the prevalence of blood clot incidences with women taking birth control pills versus those not taking them.
According to the article, in a study of 66 subjects, women exhibited elevated levels of clotting markers while taking birth control. After stopping their contraceptives, these coagulation markers plummeted within two weeks, and by week 12, all markers were similar to the control group of women not using hormone-based birth control. Overall, around 80% of the total drop in clotting markers seen in these women occurred within two weeks of stopping their birth control.
One of the key methods for preventing unnecessary clot production is regulating fibrin, which is a web-like protein that works as the backbone for creating a blood clot. NSK-SD nattokinase has shown in more than 10 pre-clinical and human studies to degrade fibrin clots both directly and indirectly. NSK-SD is a safe and natural supplement that has potential to both help resolve present blood clots and inhibit intrinsic coagulation.
The article concludes, although the risk for stroke caused by unnecessary clot development among women taking estrogen-progestin birth control is small, women who are proactive with a preventative health mindset will appreciate the ability to reduce their risk even further.
